The New York Jets are preparing to sell running back Breece Hall at the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10. The move would allow the franchise to accumulate additional draft capital while ceding the backfield to rookie Braelon Allen. This strategy follows a 2-6 start for the team, which has already signaled a willingness to part with star players for future assets.

Last year, the Jets shocked the league by trading corner Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams for multiple first-round picks. Now, with Garrett Wilson also being speculated as a potential trade candidate, many observers believe Hall is the most logical next move. The team travels to Kansas City for Week 9 before the deadline, and a loss there would likely leave New York at 2-7.

Hall is currently sidelined with a quad injury, creating an immediate opportunity for the organization. During his absence, Allen has started every game and rushed for 504 yards on a 5.4 yards per carry average. He also scored two rushing touchdowns in that span. Allen is averaging 3.92 yards per carry after contact, a metric that surpasses both Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs this season.

In the Week 8 loss to the Raiders, Allen recorded a career-high 147 rushing yards on an average of 7.0 yards per carry. The performance demonstrated that he can carry the offense independently. Allen is a 2024 fourth-round pick who is under team control through 2027 on his rookie contract, making him a cost-effective long-term solution for New York.

Hall remains an electrifying talent when healthy. He posted his first 1,000-yard rushing season last year and has accumulated 265 yards from scrimmage in three games this year before his injury. Despite his modest recent stats, he would command strong interest in the trade market as he approaches a return to the field. Practice reports indicate he was limited all last week, suggesting he is close to rejoining the lineup.

The trade market for running backs is thin, with Jonathan Taylor and Saquon Barkley often mentioned but unlikely to move. The Eagles are hesitant to trade Barkley, and the Colts would require a massive offer to part with Taylor. This scarcity positions the Jets to secure high-value draft capital for Hall. Teams needing a reliable backfield presence will likely bid aggressively.

A trade would also relieve the Jets of Hall’s substantial contract. His base salary is $5.16 million in 2026, but it jumps to $13.1 million in 2027 and $14.1 million in 2028. Offloading these numbers would provide the franchise with significant salary cap flexibility for future moves. The Jets have already built a deep pool of draft capital and would continue to add to it.

The decision to trade Hall aligns with the team's recent rebuilding strategy. By moving a high-profile player for future picks, the Jets prioritize long-term sustainability over immediate competitiveness. Allen’s emergence provides the confidence that the backfield will remain productive without Hall. The organization can focus on developing its young core while leveraging Hall’s market value.
