New York Jets fans watching the team’s recent collapse saw a familiar pattern repeat on Sunday. The squad lost its third consecutive game, falling 38-33 to the Las Vegas Raiders at MetLife Stadium. This result leaves the Jets with six losses on the season, five of which have come by a single score.
The offensive production was strong on paper, yet the team failed to convert that yardage into decisive points. Geno Smith completed 20 of 32 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Braelon Allen rushed for a career-high 147 yards and a score. Despite these numbers, the Jets settled for four field goals from the red zone, including one in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter.
Defensive struggles proved decisive in the final score. The Jets forced only one sack on Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns. New York allowed Las Vegas to convert six of nine third-down attempts. Brock Bowers caught seven passes for 92 yards, exploiting gaps in the pass rush. The Jets also failed to force any turnovers against the visiting offense.
Head coach Aaron Glenn identified specific breakdowns in the postgame press conference. "Defense, we’ve got to find a way to get better at what we’re doing," Glenn said. He noted that the team could not afford critical penalties, particularly on third down, and criticized the unit for giving up a touchdown on a kickoff return. Glenn added that he needs to figure out how to improve the defensive performance moving forward.
Penalties played a role in shifting momentum during the contest. The Jets committed six penalties totaling 32 yards, but the timing hurt. A fourth-quarter false start ended their first drive after the Raiders took the lead. Defensively, a pass interference call on a third-and-10 from the Vegas 35-yard line kept the Raiders alive. These stops allowed Las Vegas to maintain possession in critical phases.
The Jets held one final chance for a win with 30 seconds remaining. Smith attempted to throw the ball into the end zone but was intercepted with 10 seconds left. That turnover sealed the 38-33 defeat and extended Glenn’s record in one-score games to 4-9. The team now prepares to travel to Arrowhead Stadium next week to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson was a focal point early in the game but did not record a catch in the second half until the final eight minutes. The Jets gained 424 total yards of offense, showing they could move the ball but lacked the finishing touch in the end zone. The loss marks the third straight defeat for New York in the current season.
