Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh maintained his support for offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel after Los Angeles failed to score a touchdown for the second consecutive game.
The Chargers lost 24-9 to the Rams on Sunday, extending their winless season to seven games. Harbaugh stated that he remains committed to McDaniel calling plays despite the team's recent struggles on offense.
When reporters asked if Harbaugh knew what the specific issues were, he replied, “Yes, I’m not gonna address anything; I’m focused on this game and that’s my focus.” He added later that the team’s motivation is a dedication to getting the situation changed and fixed.
The offense has been the lowest-scoring unit in the NFL, averaging 15 points per game. The team is tied with the Browns, Seahawks, Vikings, and Commanders for the worst red zone efficiency, scoring 50 percent of the time in that area.
Kicker Cameron Dicker accounted for all nine Chargers points with three field goals. Justin Herbert completed 24 of 32 passes for 257 yards, threw two interceptions, and was sacked twice. The running game produced only 64 yards, with Kimani Vidal leading the team with 23 yards on eight carries and Omarion Hampton adding 20 yards on nine attempts.
In the final seconds of the second quarter, Herbert threw a deep pass to Ladd McConkey. McConkey caught the ball on a 54-yard reception but was one yard short of the end zone, leaving the Chargers without a touchdown for the game.
Harbaugh opened his press conference by saying, “We’re aware of what the issues are, and we’re the only ones that can fix them.” He indicated that the team is working to instill belief in the players while analyzing what went wrong in Sunday's loss.
