One thousand dollars is the price difference between Samsung's upcoming China-only foldable and its standard top-tier model. A new leak from leaker Ice Universe indicates the Galaxy W27 will hit the market on October 29. This date is just six days from today, October 23.

The device is not a new hardware platform. It is a rebranded version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The specifications match the Ultra model exactly. The visual design, however, differs. Ice Universe shared an image showing a glossy blue back. Gold accents surround the triple-camera array. This styling follows the yearly tradition for the W series, which often features elaborate packaging and extra flair compared to the standard global models.

The W series has been a consistent part of Samsung's strategy in China. Each year, the company releases a special variant of its top foldable exclusively for that market. There was one exception in 2024. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition received a broader release. That move served as a precursor to the major design shift seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. For 2026, the W27 returns to the China-only model.

The choice to base the W27 on the Ultra model stands out. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a new shape that is clearly resonating with customers. Yet Samsung is pairing its premium China device with the wider Ultra format. This aligns with a growing trend in the region. Wide-format foldables are gaining ground. Xiaomi's latest foldable has a virtually identical form factor. Huawei has been releasing wide foldables for longer than any other manufacturer.

This launch lands as attention turns to the broader foldable market. Samsung has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a hit. The company notes that the iPhone Duo has put a spotlight on foldable devices. Analysts project that foldable display shipments will increase by 44% in 2026. This growth is driven by the arrival of wide foldables. Samsung has also updated several Galaxy devices to Android 17 recently.

If the leaked date holds, the W27 will be the final foldable from Samsung this year. The company has several new foldables planned for next year. The W27 will serve as the capstone for the 2026 lineup. It targets a specific segment of premium buyers in China who prefer the wider format and the distinctive aesthetic. The device will be available for purchase starting October 29.

The pricing structure reflects the premium nature of the device. It costs $1,000 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. This premium price point is consistent with previous W series releases. The device combines the hardware of the flagship Ultra with the unique styling of the China-exclusive line. It represents Samsung's final major hardware release for the year.
