Apple has activated a hidden interactive experience on its Apple Music website to mark the 25th anniversary of the original iPod. The feature appears when users encounter a broken link or error on the platform.

Instead of a static message, the error page displays a prompt reading "give this a spin instead." Following this link reveals a fully functional virtual replica of the original device. Users can browse a library containing 1,029 playable songs, exceeding the 1,000 tracks originally advertised in the product launch.

The interface mirrors the classic layout with tabs for Playlists, Artists, Songs, and Settings. The click wheel and other controls respond to user input, although testing showed the experience can be unstable. The interface performs better on mobile devices than on desktop computers, where it may fail to load entirely.

The music catalog reflects the early 2000s era, featuring artists such as Baha Men, blink-182, and Eminem. Regional variations exist in the available tracks. Users in the United Kingdom saw additional names including Daniel Bedingfield, The Fratellis, and Klaxons. Playback is restricted to 90 seconds per track.

The virtual device also includes the Brick game, a hidden feature originally found on the first-generation iPod. Users access the game by holding the center button on the About screen for several seconds. This replicates the specific interaction required to play the game on the physical hardware.

The feature does not require an active Apple Music subscription to access. The placement of the experience on error pages suggests a low-visibility strategy for the tribute. Most users will only encounter the interface if their connection drops or a URL is mistyped during a visit to the service.

The original iPod was unveiled in 2001 and established the market for portable digital music players. The current digital replica serves as a functional archive of the device's most famous software elements.
