OnePlus delivers Android 17 to India seven days early

OnePlus started shipping stable Android 17 updates on Thursday, beating its own internal schedule by one week. The original plan called for the first devices to receive the software on October 29. Instead, the rollout began on October 23. This early start applies specifically to the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4 in India.

This release marks a structural change for the brand. OxygenOS, the custom interface OnePlus used for years, is being retired. These two models are the first devices to transition fully to ColorOS, the software platform developed by Oppo. The company announced the phaseout of OxygenOS when it scaled back its global operations. Existing devices were told they would eventually update to ColorOS. This rollout is the first step in that transition.

The software had been available in beta for months. The move to a stable release makes the update available to general users. OnePlus framed the launch around its tagline, "Flow with AI, Flow Everywhere." The company stated the goal is to make interactions feel less like work and more like natural progression. It cited features that help users turn ideas into finished work and move between tasks with less friction.

The India launch is the first in a multi-stage rollout. Only the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 are part of this initial wave. OnePlus confirmed that other models are in the queue. This includes the previous generation of flagships and various Nord models. The next group of devices is scheduled to receive the update on October 30. The OnePlus 13 is listed in this second wave.

The timing of the software release follows a period of operational changes for the company. Reports indicated that the OnePlus 15 and other models sold out in the United States after OnePlus shut down most of its global operations. The company also recently unveiled the OnePlus 16. That new model features a 9,000 mAh battery. The Android 17 update is expected to reach other regions in the coming days. No specific dates have been confirmed for those markets beyond the India launch and the October 30 follow-up.
