Redfin lists nearby daycare options on property pages
The feature, launched with childcare marketplace Winnie, displays up to five early care providers within a 10-mile radius of each for-sale home.

Redfin, a real estate brokerage, has integrated childcare data directly into its property listings. The new feature, built in partnership with Winnie, a national online childcare marketplace, displays nearby early care and education programs on every for-sale property listing on Redfin’s desktop and mobile websites.
The integration went live on Redfin’s iOS and Android applications at the end of September, according to Isabelle Novak, a spokesperson for the company. Daryl Fairweather, Redfin’s chief economist, said the move addresses a common overlap in family life. “Searching for a home often coincides with having a child,” Fairweather said. He noted that knowing childcare costs before committing to a mortgage helps buyers calculate their true housing affordability.
The feature appears alongside Redfin’s existing K-12 school ratings from GreatSchools. As buyers scroll through a listing, they will see two distinct options: one for K-12 schools and another for preschool and daycare. The daycare section pulls data from Winnie’s database of more than 250,000 licensed early care and education programs nationwide.
Each listing displays up to five nearby providers, showing the ages they serve and their distance from the property. Clicking a provider’s name opens a pop-up with details such as hours of operation, address, website, and financial assistance options. Users can also click through to the provider’s full profile on Winnie’s site for additional information like available slots and tuition rates.
Sara Mauskopf, CEO and co-founder of Winnie, said the data is sourced from public state licensing databases. Providers can claim and update their profiles, a process about 25% of the 250,000 listed providers have completed. Mauskopf emphasized that childcare is a necessity for young families, not an optional extra. She recalled her own experience moving with three children, where she and her husband had to scramble for care after settling into their new home.
The feature is designed to help families identify “childcare deserts,” areas with few or no licensed programs nearby. Novak confirmed that the tool only shows providers within a 10-mile radius of the address. If no programs exist in that range, the listing will display a message stating that no programs were found. This transparency is intended to help buyers assess the practical logistics of a move, particularly in rural or less dense areas.
Mauskopf noted that many providers still require tours before disclosing prices, a practice she described as unlike any other market. However, she observed a recent shift where more providers are posting tuition rates online, partly because families are increasingly using AI tools to compare costs. Mauskopf hopes this trend will continue, allowing the Redfin integration to eventually display complete cost data for families.
