The Jaguars led by 28 points at halftime on Sunday, marking the third-largest first-half margin in franchise history. The team dominated the Colts 42-7 under rainy conditions in Jacksonville, Florida, extending a winning streak in the head-to-head series at home to 12 games.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed three touchdown passes to drive the offense. He connected with receiver Brian Thomas Jr., a player who had been moved to the bench recently, and also found tight end Bhayshul Tuten on a screen pass during the third quarter. Lawrence further linked up with rookie Nate Boerkircher on a 31-yard completion, contributing to a first half filled with high-impact plays for the 5-2 Jaguars.
The Jaguars built their lead through multiple scoring methods. Tuten added a 39-yard rushing touchdown after breaking three tackles. Rayuan Lane sealed the early advantage by returning an interception 92 yards for a score with 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
The result came five days after the 2-6 Colts initiated a rebuild phase by trading two key defenders. Indianapolis sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and veteran guard Quenton Nelson to other teams. The franchise also dismissed general manager Chris Ballard last month and reportedly is open to moving star running back Jonathan Taylor.
Taylor was limited in this matchup, finishing with 23 yards on eight carries. He also fumbled the ball during a botched fake play. The Jaguars faced their own setback on the ground when tackle DaVon Hamilton suffered what appeared to be a serious right knee injury in the second quarter. Teammates gathered around him as staff requested a cart, and he left the game minutes later.
The Jaguars now hold a 5-2 record following the win. The Colts sit at 2-6 as they adjust to recent personnel changes and coaching decisions.
