Google is updating the Gemini app for Android to limit the number of visible chat histories to five. The company is deploying this change through a server-side update, so users do not need to download a new version of the app to see the changes. This follows a recent change where Spark was renamed to Task. The update is now reaching a wider audience on Android devices.

The side panel layout has changed. The search function now sits in the top-right corner. New chat remains the first item in the list. Library has moved to a position directly below New chat, replacing its previous location near the bottom of the drawer. The five-item limit applies to the initial view. Tapping a 'More' option expands the list to show the remaining entries.

For subscribers to the AI Ultra tier, the full expanded list includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems. This structure aims to keep the navigation drawer uncluttered while preserving access to recent conversations.

Google has also reorganized the settings menu. Previously, preferences were split between the account menu and a separate Gemini Settings area. The new design merges these into one page. The account menu now handles only account switching, feedback, and help requests. The unified Settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits.

A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry labeled as new in this section. Two additional sections complete the page: Data & privacy and Get support. Data & privacy includes Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. Get support lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.

The same interface changes reached iOS, macOS, and the web app last week. That rollout coincided with the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. Android users are now receiving the update more broadly. Other recent changes to the app include Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App, free users defaulting to Auto models, and a new Map tool replacing the / shortcut with an @ symbol.
