A shopper in Martinsburg, West Virginia, purchased a $50,000 Powerball ticket at the Walmart on Hammonds Mill Road during the weekend drawing. The ticket matched four numbers plus the Powerball. The player did not select the Power Play option, which would have increased the payout for non-jackpot tiers.
The national Powerball jackpot has grown to $793 million, with an estimated cash value of $339.9 million. No winner has claimed the top prize since mid-August. The lottery reported that the current streak of 35 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner ranks among the tenth-longest in the game's history. Powerball prizes have been awarded six times this year.
Acting Lottery Director David Bradley commented on the rising jackpot. "We’ve seen this jackpot gain momentum here recently, and it always makes for an exciting time in our industry," Bradley said. He added that the organization encourages players to play responsibly.
Separately, a winner on the West Virginia Lottery’s iPLAY digital platform claimed the largest instant win in the two-year history of the program. The player won the prize by playing Big Crush Multiplier. Bradley called the result an incredible milestone for the app-based lottery service. "This is the largest win overall for iLottery since we started," Bradley said. He noted that while previous winners claimed large draw game prizes through the app, this instant win marks a new high for the digital platform.
The West Virginia Lottery is tracking the ongoing jackpot run and the performance of its digital lottery products. The next drawing is scheduled to continue the sequence as the total prize pool remains elevated.
