Five people sustained injuries during four separate incidents that unfolded overnight near the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing. The events included two shootings and two traffic accidents involving pedestrians. Local law enforcement is currently investigating all four cases.

Police Chief Jennifer Brown briefed reporters on Sunday regarding the status of each investigation. The first pedestrian collision took place on Abbot Road near Library Lane. The driver remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The pedestrian victim was transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in critical condition overnight. After undergoing surgery on Sunday, the patient's condition improved to stable.

A shooting occurred shortly after midnight near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Three individuals suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital. Brown stated that two of the victims are in stable condition, while the status of the third remains unknown. A second pedestrian crash happened near Grand River Avenue and Gunson Street. Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of intoxication and recovered a firearm from the vehicle. The pedestrian involved in this crash is listed in stable condition.

The second shooting took place early Sunday morning near Stoddard Street and Frye Avenue. Two people with gunshot wounds were transported to a hospital, and Brown confirmed both are in stable condition. Police recovered multiple guns at the scene but have not yet determined if they were the weapons used in the shooting. Several individuals were taken into custody in connection with this incident.

Brown acknowledged the fear caused by the cluster of events. "We are aware that this situation was extremely frightening for bystanders, including the Michigan State University students, as well as their families," she said. She added that there is no known threat to the community at this time. Officers were still responding to one incident when the next one began, according to Brown.

Brown highlighted the department's coordination with the university. "Our relationship with the university is strong, and we will continue to work together," she said. She noted that East Lansing officers provided life-saving aid to gunshot victims, secured multiple crime scenes, and removed impaired drivers from the streets during one of the city's busiest nights. Mutual aid partners from the Michigan State Police, Meridian Township Police Department, Lansing Police Department, Ingham County Sheriff's Office, and the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety assisted with the response.
