Angel Canales, 21, of Silver Spring, died in a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of Randolph Road and Bluhill Road in Montgomery County on Saturday, Oct. 31, shortly before 5 a.m.

Montgomery County Police identified Canales on Monday, Nov. 2, after initially releasing details of the fatal crash. Investigators report he was driving a gray 1990 Honda Civic westbound on Randolph Road when the vehicle lost control for reasons still under review.

The Civic struck a curb and overturned before impacting a utility pole, which forced authorities to shut down Randolph Road in both directions while emergency crews worked the scene. The collision brought down power lines, extending the road closure.

Canales was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first responders. An adult male passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the loss of control. Officials stated the investigation could take several weeks or months to complete.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact investigators at 240-773-6620.
