A large, colorful mural now covers a section of the North Lot at Cross County Center in Yonkers. The artwork sits between a Zara store and a Shake Shack. It officially opened to the public this week. The piece marks the 70th anniversary of the shopping center's founding. State leaders attended the unveiling ceremony. New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins was present for the event. She joined representatives from ArtsWestchester and mall management. Stewart-Cousins spoke about the center's role as a community hub. The mall has served residents of Westchester County for seven decades. It functions as both a retail destination and a social gathering spot.

The visual style of the mural draws inspiration from 1950s design. Artist Andrey Kravtsov, who works under the name Key Detail, created the piece. The imagery reflects memories and connections formed by generations of shoppers. Kravtsov used bright colors to evoke the era when the center first opened. The work serves as a tribute to the property's long history in local life. It captures the social fabric of the area over the past 70 years.

The project is part of a larger effort called CHARM. The acronym stands for Cultivating Havens for the Arts through Regional Murals. Governor Kathy Hochul launched this statewide initiative. The New York State Council on the Arts administers the program. The goal is to place public art in regional locations across the state. Cross County Center was selected for this specific installation. The funding supports the creation of public art in community spaces. This adds a new cultural element to the Yonkers shopping district.

Visitors can view the mural during regular mall hours. The location in the North Lot makes it easily accessible to shoppers. The artwork stands as a permanent fixture in the center. It joins other historical markers in the area. The installation completes a major phase of the CHARM program for this site. The mall continues to operate as a key commercial hub in the Rivertowns.
