Apple is set to roll out iOS 27.2 next week, marking the next major software update for iPhone users. Because iOS 27.1 was restricted to the iPhone Duo, this release serves as the primary update for the broader user base. The package includes three distinct feature additions that alter how users interact with video calls, podcasts, and television content.

The most visible change involves FaceTime. The Dual Capture feature, introduced in iOS 27, previously allowed users to display both front and rear camera feeds only during one-on-one conversations. iOS 27.2 extends this capability to Group FaceTime calls. On compatible devices, users can tap the Flip button to activate the rear camera while keeping the front camera active. This allows participants in group video chats to show their surroundings simultaneously with their own faces.

Apple Podcasts receives a structural overhaul in this update. The existing Up Next queue on the Home tab is being divided into two separate sections. The first section, labeled New Episodes, will contain the latest releases from shows a user follows. Directly below that, a new section called Continue Playing will list any shows a listener has started but not finished. This separation aims to reduce clutter and provide a clearer view of ongoing and new content.

The Apple TV app on iPhone is also receiving user profiles for the first time. While profiles have been available on tvOS for some time, they were previously absent from the iOS version. Upon updating, users will see a profile selection screen when opening the app. This screen can be disabled if the user prefers not to use it. When profiles are active, the app tailors content recommendations to the selected viewer. A child's profile will display only age-appropriate Apple content, keeping the main viewing queue organized for adults.

According to 9to5Mac, the new podcast layout offers a major improvement over the previous design, which was often described as confusing. The outlet noted that the beta version helps users track their listening habits more effectively. The Apple TV profiles help ensure that children do not encounter unsuitable material when using a parent's device. In total, iOS 27.2 introduces new features across six different iPhone applications.
