Romanian President Nicușor Dan stated on X that the Russian Federation is responsible for a sabotage network involved in an attempted arson attack on a domestic weapons plant.

Dan described the incident as a serious violation of Romanian sovereignty and security. He asserted that no foreign state possesses the right to conduct such operations within Romania or other European nations.

The Romanian Intelligence Service exposed the network, which was coordinated from Russia. The group was implicated in the fire attempt at the Carfil weapons plant in Brașov on 14 September. A Ukrainian citizen and two Belarusians are the primary suspects in the case.

Dan characterized the event as part of a hybrid war strategy used by Moscow to weaken European democracies. He listed electoral influence, disinformation, information warfare, cyberattacks, and sabotage as tools in that arsenal.

The president commended the effectiveness of national intelligence services in identifying the plot. He pledged that Romania would act decisively to prevent similar incidents, identify those involved, and protect critical infrastructure.

Dan added that the country will continue close cooperation with NATO allies and European Union partners in these efforts.
