Parents in the Arvada area are facing new uncertainty regarding the safety of their young children following a state order that suspended a local home daycare. The suspension was triggered after an infant enrolled in the facility was transported to a hospital in critical condition last month. While the immediate focus is on the injured child, the regulatory action signals that the state believes the provider may have failed to meet basic standards of care, a development that has left other families questioning the oversight of their own children's daily environment.

The Colorado Department of Early Childhood issued the suspension order, which highlighted specific operational failures. The documents indicate the owner was caring for four infants at one time, despite holding a license that authorized her to care for only two. The injured child and one of the sons of a parent named Hannah Fuller were among those four children. Additionally, the order referenced a prior misdemeanor charge for child abuse involving the owner from an incident in February 2026. The owner is scheduled to appear in court on October 29 regarding that earlier charge.

Hannah Fuller, whose two sons attended the daycare, described receiving a frantic phone call from an assistant to the operator. The assistant, who is also the operator's daughter, told Fuller an infant had choked and required CPR. Upon arrival, Fuller said she received minimal details and was repeatedly assured that everything was fine, despite sensing something more serious had occurred. She noted that the lack of transparency was difficult, as parents often hesitate to second-guess their choices for fear of guilt.

Westminster police have classified the matter as a criminal investigation, though no arrests have been made. The department has asked parents to bring their children for physical examinations to check for internal injuries. Investigators have not yet disclosed their theory of what happened on the day of the incident. A police spokesperson stated that cases involving children's safety require careful review to protect both the investigation's integrity and the privacy of those involved.

The family of the injured infant has requested anonymity but allowed Fuller to share an update on his condition. The boy suffered a traumatic brain injury and retinal hemorrhaging. His family is focusing on small improvements in his recovery while acknowledging that he will likely never be the same as before. Fuller expressed frustration over the pace of the process, asking why no one had been held accountable yet.

When Denver7 visited the location, a family member present declined to comment and directed questions to an attorney. The attorney also declined to provide a statement. The situation underscores the challenges of regulating home-based care facilities, where oversight can be less frequent than in institutional settings. For the parents involved, the suspension provides a temporary pause, but the criminal probe will determine whether further action is taken against the provider.

The investigation is expected to continue as police gather evidence and complete their review. Parents in the community are being encouraged to contact the police department directly with questions. The outcome of the case will likely influence how other families in the area approach the selection of daycare providers in the coming months.
