Apple TV subscribers in the United States began receiving Formula 1 coverage in Dolby Atmos on Friday, October 23. The United States Grand Prix is the first race in the series to be broadcast in this spatial audio format.

Apple and Dolby Laboratories confirmed the update earlier this month. The company stated that the sound design aims to immerse viewers in the race environment. This includes capturing team radio, commentary, engine noise, and pit lane activity.

Apple noted that combining Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision enhances both audio and visual quality. The goal is to place fans at the center of the on-track action. The service costs $14.99 per month or is available through the Apple One bundle.

First practice sessions have concluded, but the remaining schedule continues this weekend. Practice 2 is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. Practice 3 follows on Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying begins at 5 p.m. ET the same day.

The main race is set for Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET. Apple is hosting a live viewing event for the race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. This location also hosted the iPhone Duo launch on Friday, attended by CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien.

The company updated Apple Maps for the event. It expanded its Detailed City Experience to include Austin. The new map features the Circuit of The Americas with turn numbers, grandstands, and 3D landmarks. These details help fans navigate the venue.

Apple TV also offers access to other shows, including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo. The spatial audio upgrade applies specifically to the Formula 1 broadcast for this weekend.
