A persistent high-pressure system is driving an unusual warming trend across New England, with Boston poised to challenge historical temperature records for November. Meteorologists indicate that if daily highs reach 70 degrees starting Monday and continue through Friday, the region would break the previous record for consecutive 70-degree days in the month.

Historical data shows that November typically averages only one day with a high of 70 degrees. The previous record for consecutive 70-degree days stands at four, a mark set in 2020 and again in 2022. The absolute maximum for 70-degree days in a single November is six. Current forecasts suggest an outside chance that the current stretch could exceed the four-day streak, though it may not reach the six-day ceiling.

The warm weather is significantly above the 30-year climatological average for the first week of November. Normal highs for this period range from the mid-50s to the low 60s. This week, temperatures are expected to sit in the low 70s, creating a gap of roughly 15 to 20 degrees above the typical baseline.

Greater Boston residents can expect sunshine on Monday with highs approaching 70 degrees. By Tuesday, temperatures are likely to climb into the lower 70s. Morning temperatures in the city will start in the 40s to near 50. In Central and Western Massachusetts, mornings will be colder, beginning in the mid-30s on Monday, before afternoon highs reach the upper 60s. Tuesday will bring low 70s temperatures to that region as well.

Southeastern Massachusetts will see similar conditions, with sunshine and temperatures near 70 on Monday, rising to the low 70s on Tuesday. Cape Cod and the Islands will be cooler, with mid-60s on Monday and upper 60s on Tuesday. Rhode Island will start the week dry with sunshine, seeing temperatures in the mid to upper 60s, near 70 in Providence, and upper 60s near the coast.

The warm spell is expected to end when a frontal system moves into the region from Friday into early Saturday. This system will bring a chance of rainfall, though the total precipitation amount remains uncertain. The system may move quickly, keeping Saturday daytime conditions relatively dry. Gardeners can keep tomato and basil plants outdoors without frost concerns this week, and the dry, warm days are ideal for exterior painting and staining projects.
