The landscape of artificial intelligence tools is currently crowded with new entrants that promise to simplify digital life for consumers and workers alike. Against this backdrop of constant innovation, Anthropic has introduced a new product called Claude Duet. This release marks a specific strategic move for the company, positioning itself against a roster of high-profile competitors including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. The goal is to capture user attention by offering a distinct value proposition in a market that sees new assistants launching on a weekly basis.
The design philosophy behind Claude Duet is focused squarely on the professional sector and small business owners. The company explicitly differentiates this tool from personal agents like Instinct. Anthropic notes that Duet is not optimized for handling personal errands, such as booking tickets, nor does it provide a live visual feed of its browser activity. Instead, the system is engineered to assist with higher-level management and automation tasks that are common in a work environment.
The core functionality of the application revolves around proactive support for daily operations. Duet can construct personalized daily briefings and generate data dashboards based on the information it processes. It also suggests specific actions for the user to take, relying on the data available to it. This approach is consistent with other agents on the market, but it places a heavy emphasis on structured output and actionable insights for professional use cases.
Like its peers, Duet operates with a degree of autonomy. It can complete assigned tasks in the background using its own virtual machine environment. This allows the user to continue with other work while the agent processes requests. The system will pause and return to the user if it encounters a situation that requires specific approval. This balance of independence and oversight is a key feature for users who want efficiency without losing control.
The timing of this launch coincides with a broader industry shift. The market is moving beyond simple conversational assistants toward agents that can actively work on behalf of the user. Many of Anthropic's rivals are already focusing on business applications. For instance, while Meta's Muse is primarily a personal assistant, the company has also released a version tailored for small businesses that features connections to other software. Similarly, OpenAI's Dots has a business orientation, with integrations designed for professional tools.
Under the hood, Claude Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. This foundation allows it to connect with a vast ecosystem of external services. Specifically, the agent can utilize over 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive connectivity enables the tool to interact with a wide range of third-party applications and data sources, enhancing its utility for complex business workflows.
The application also introduces new capabilities for financial transactions. Duet can make online purchases on behalf of users by integrating with Stripe's Link digital wallet or Shopify's Shop Pay. However, the company has implemented safeguards for these sensitive operations. Any step involving a payment requires explicit user approval. Despite these capabilities, Duet will not trade securities or move money between bank accounts, keeping its financial scope limited to purchasing.
Security and privacy remain central to the new release. Anthropic has developed a new classifier that scans each message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is programmed to turn down requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification. This layer of protection is intended to reassure users that their personal data remains secure while the agent performs its duties.
Claude Duet is currently available for download on iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible via the web through Claude.ai. The service is currently in a research preview phase, meaning it is not yet fully open to the public. Access is limited to Pro and Max customers who must join a waitlist to try the tool. This staged rollout allows Anthropic to gather feedback and refine the agent's performance before a wider release.
